This course provides students a scientific foundation for understanding energy issues facing the world today. The course introduces energy concepts and explores the environmental impact of energy generation, distribution and consumption. Students also learn about the scientific evidence behind global warming and predictions for climate change. The course examines the differing impacts that coal, oil, and natural gas have in generating greenhouse gases and introduces renewable sources of energy and energy efficiency technologies. Laboratory investigations and projects are an essential component of the course.
